16ème Carrefour Européen du Patchwork : du 16 au 19 septembre 2010
First news on the 16th European Patchwork Meeting !

Between the 16th and the 19th of September 2010, it is expected that over 21 000 visitors from 50 countries will attend the 16th European Patchwork Meeting in Ste Marie aux Mines (Alsace, France).

South Korea, non European guest of honour !

The European Patchwork Meeting is very pleased to welcome South Korea with exceptional exhibitions curated by Chunghie Lee, a renowned South Korean artist and teacher.

Other Far Eastern countries will be present, such as Japan with a selection from the prestigious contest organized every 3 years by Nihon Vogue and Japan Handicraft Instructor’s Association.
France Patchwork will also present its Franco Japan contest under the theme “the Nature” and we will have a larger exhibition of Miao costumes and textiles lent by the French collector Pierre Trécourt.

Germany, European guest of honour !

The German Patchwork Association will celebrate its 25th anniversary and show the works of German finalists who have participated in the contest based on the number 25.

We can guarantee you o lot of beautiful, traditional and contemporary quilts ! “We are made of the same fabric that has inspired our dreams” : Dörte Bach has chosen this sentence of Shakespeare’s “The Storm” to illustrate her new contest of art quilts that will be shown at the Meeting. She will also have a solo exhibition sharing a venue with Helga Widman.
An other contemporary German artist will be Britta Ankenbauer, while Brigitte Morgenroth will be more a traditional one, showing us a retrospective of her traditional log cabin quilts.

The European Patchwork Meeting wants definitely to promote the creativity of artists from all over the world…

Nancy Crow (USA), an internationally renowned American artist has organized an invitational contemporary exhibition that will be previewed at the Meeting prior to its European tour.
“Wide Horizons II” is SAQA’s second European (including Israel) exhibition specially organized every 2 years for the European Meeting. Dijanne Cevaal (AUS) will also present works from Australia, New-Zealand and South Africa. Katrina Flensburg (Sweden) will be accompanied by her students from the patchwork Swedish Academy.
You will also discover a few contemporary artists such as Ludmila Aristova (Russia), Ineke van Unen (The Netherlands), Alison Holt (GB) and Saskia Em van Dijk (The Netherlands) as well as more traditional artists such as Kaffee Fasset, Quiltmania’s special guest this year. The Meeting will also feature Born to Quilt with Véronique Réquena (F) for the first exhibit of her “Quilt Mystère” (mysterious quilt).

The Carrefour will pay a special tribute to Ina Georgeta Statescu (F) who will present a retrospective of her works during the last 20 years and the promotion of her latest book published by the Editions de Saxe.

Finally, Jacques Légeret (CH) will present in collaboration with the AFHAM, another part of his Amish quilt collection with the exhibition : “Multiple Patch or “l’art de l’économie”” (the art of saving).

Some 30 classes taught during these exhibitions, will add important interest to the Meeting especially for the quilt fanatics ; talks, meetings and excursions will be a good opportunity to meet experts in each discipline.

The commercial area of the Meeting with its 150 European and international shops will be a must and will propose some key products for the beginning of the 2010 school year : a variety of accessories and tools for the realization of patchworks such as books, templates, sewing machines, software etc…

Katie Pasquini Masopust (USA) teaches around the world and the European Patchwork Meeting is proud to announce that she will participate in this edition : she will be the guest teacher of a 4 day seminar on design titled “improve your knowledge on design and contemporary creation” which will be held after the Meeting. She will also teach 1 day classes during the Meeting.
